THE HISTORY: In the State Archive of Rome, the envelope "1286, registered in 1806, reads “The Filonardis, Roman Pa-tricians, had many proprieties and farmhouses in this zone but the farmhouse assigned to them is to be found between Massarosa and Torricella, here Natale Filonardi produced the best thirty wine casks of the area”. Today it is still one of the few vineyards designations (Cru) of Frascati appellation recognised and certified by the designated regulatory bodies.
THE VINEYARD AND THE VINIFICATION: Filonardi is found on a steep hill, the terrain appears particularly rich of mi-croelements and in particular of metals of a clearly volcanic origin. Malvasia del Lazio, Malvasia di Candia, Trebbiano and Grechetto are present, all cultivated following the Guyot method, the plant density is of 4000 stumps per hectare (roughly 9800 per acre). The whole grapes undergo a soft pressing, the fermentation takes place at a controlled tem-perature (18°W20°). It fines with noble lees for 3 months.

FRASCATI’S VINEYARDS

Massarosa, Selciatella, Vermicino, Torricella, Ombrellino
Production zone: in the district of the Frascati DOC locality Massarosa, Selciatella, Vermicino, Torricella and Ombrellino. Height above sea level: from 300 to 550 meters. Terrain: hilly of volcanic origin rich with potassium, with lava rocks.
Variety: Malvasia del Lazio, Malvasia di Candia, Trebbiano, Bombino, Greco.
Vine training: rows with an average of 4500 stumps per hectare (roughly 11000 stumps per acre)
Winter pruning: Guyot and spurred cordoned. Green management: thinning of sprouts, defoliation and when necessary thinning of grape bunches.
Cultivation: the company adheres to a low environmental impact program, thus only organics fertilisers are utilised, the land is worked, the antiparasitic treatments, mainly based on sulfur and copper, are monitored and carried out only in case of actual necessity.
Yield per hectare: at the moment the appellations require 14000 kg/ha, the company self-imposed a maximum of 9000 kg/ha.
